My Story

Aloha, I’m Dr. Harris, owner and founder of Mauna Family Dental!

The two things I’m most proud of in life are my family and my profession. Becoming a dentist has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I feel incredibly grateful to have built a career centered around caring for others.

My passion for dentistry began at a young age while working for my aunt, a dentist in New York City. She became an important mentor and role model and inspired me to pursue a career in dentistry. I grew up in Bountiful, Utah, as one of five children, and my large family taught me early on the importance of connection, service, and caring for others.

I met my husband while studying Physiology and Developmental Biology at Brigham Young University. While I completed my education, he spent eight years serving as a firefighter and paramedic. After dental school, we moved to Washington State, where I practiced at a community health clinic in the small town of Yelm. That experience strengthened my passion for providing compassionate, accessible dental care and serving patients from all walks of life.

My husband and I are blessed with three children, ages 8, 11, and 14. We moved to Hawaiʻi eight years ago, and our family has loved making this island home and learning about its rich culture and community. We enjoy spending our weekends at the beach, camping, and traveling to the mainland to visit family and friends. Outside of dentistry, I enjoy reading, music, exercise, crafting, and serving in my local church.

One of the most rewarding parts of my life is my involvement with The LOVE Project, a nonprofit foundation founded by my mother.  Each year, the organization travels to South America to provide free dental care and other essential resources to families in underserved communities. I have the privilege of overseeing the dental program and organizing emergency and preventive care for the communities we serve.

I am a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Hawaiʻi Dental Association (HDA), and Hawaiʻi County Dental Society (HCDS). I currently serve as Secretary of the Hawaiʻi Dental Association.
Owning my own practice and being able to serve the people of Hilo is truly a dream come true. I am deeply grateful to call this beautiful island home and to have the opportunity to care for and build relationships with the wonderful community of Hilo, Hawaiʻi.
